Invest in Leather - It’s the New Home Dec. Trend!

Leather actually increases in value over time as it ages, because it gets more beautiful over time by developing a patina unlike most other home decorating products. It’s more expensive, but it’s a  sound investment, because a leather piece will last forever.
“Leather has been hot in women’s fashion for the last several years, leather for home decor - beyond the “pleathery-looking” sofa is really this season’s trend for adding character and style throughout the home.” Leather is trending now, because for the last two to three years, people are being much more innovative in the way they design, whether it’s for the home or a restaurant or a business,” according to Sarah Eckler, senior vice-president of sales and marketing for Townsend Leather.
EcoDomo Leather Walls with Metallic Otagonal Tile
The options are endless in leather; flooring, moldings, top-stitched wall tiles, hyde and recycled, medallion and logo, color matching, area rug borders, woven patterns, and custom sizes and finishes.
Leather is nature’s oldest textile. And does leather ever really go out of style?

TREND ALERT: Gray is the New Color for Hardwood & Laminate

There is a new trend for hardwood and laminate and it is the color gray. The darker brown stains are still popular, but the gray tones are emerging.

Joey LaSalle from LaSalle Custom Design says it best. "Gray is in fact the new "Chocolate"...beige's are giving way to the gray palette. For those that prefer "warmer" tones as opposed to cooler, keep in mind that warm grays are just as relevant.  Yellow was the color of the year in 2009 as turquoise is the color of 2010, which is also a wonderful combination with gray.  Interior colors often follow the Fashion Color trends by approximately a year, sometimes two.  A good predictor to Interior Style is to look to the Fashion Industry.  In many ways, not only color, we are re-inventing the 80's with current interior design trends...as we are also seeing in fashion/music/even artwork.  Sleeker, glossier, high lacquer finishes are on the rise as the "old world" Tuscan styles are beginning to fade more and more.  The new color palette combination's of grays and brighter pop colors supports this.  Just as many of us have lived in the "beige box" for the better part of the last decade, Gray's are now here to stay for awhile." Please visit Joey's website to learn more about design trends or to learn more about his design philosophy. Thank you Joey for your "guest post".

Are you considering taking advantage of this new trend? Do you need more product information, pricing or samples of hardwood or laminates in the new gray color?

New Hardwood, Ready to Sell!

First impressions are huge. I was invited by the stagers I work with to visit a house in a desirable neighborhood known as Cool Springs, an area of Franklin, Tennessee. The house, built twelve years ago, was showing it’s age and the natural finish hardwood in the entry, hall and kitchen was in poor condition and certainly wouldn’t attract any potential buyers. The hardwood finish was gone in some areas to the point you could feel the woodgrain.
The obvious answer was to replace it so I did with Versini's Roma Hardwood. It is an engineered oak in a popular walnut stain with a satin finish in a 3” width. My installers were able to finish 400 square feet, including taking up the “glued-down” existing hardwood, and shoemolding, removing / replacing the commode, and appliances and then installing the new hardwood, and new shoemolding. The result is an updated, ready to sell home. Oh, and I forgot to mention, also installed four bedrooms and a staircase of carpet and new tile in the master!
Staging projects are challenging though,  as I actually have three customers; the stagers, real estate agent and the homeowner. My favorite part is when the customers move to a house in the area and generally a job well done leads to a new project at their new address.

Would staging at your home make a difference?

Gray Furniture is Alive and Well in NYC
This find is from ABC Carpet and Home in New Your City. A bit more traditional than the other two, but I like the similarities in terms of the tonal gray qualities.

Dual Duty as a Kitchen Island or Storage for an Office
The third, most contemporary find and the largest of the three is a repurposed butcher block enhanced with a walnut stain, and a bank of nine drawers for additional storage. The drawers were painted with Sherwin Williams Paint Black Fox and then a silver glaze was added to give it that reflective property as well as enhance the oak grain.

At counter height this could be a kitchen island, with seating on the open side or use as a desk where additional storage is demanded. http://www.lasallecustomdesign.com/
